The Gemstone Carnelian
The Carnelian is a translucent chalcedony with red tints from iron oxides such as hematite. It may be banded or have a solid color.
It has been used in cameos and intaglios (the opposite of cameos where the image carved into the stone and not raised). As well it is popular as signet rings.
